    The son of James Clark, RI, John Cosmo Clark studied at Goldsmith's College from 1912 to 1914 and at Academie Julian in Paris in 1918 and 1919. He returned to London and won a travelling scholarship and a gold medal for work at the Royal Academy Schools.

    In 1926 he held his first solo exhibition and subsequently he regularly exhibited at the Royal Academy, at the Paris Salon and at the International Exhibition in Venice. Clark taught at Camberwell School of Art. Many of his paintings, in oil and watercolours, were inspired by London life.

    In 1955 he was awarded the CBE.
