    Herbert Budd was born in Staffordshire, and studied at Hanley School of Art and at the Royal College of Art under Moira from 1903-8. He married the artist Helen Margaret Mackenzie.

    Budd was noted as a painter of portraits, landscapes and townscapes in oils, and in 1907 became an associate of the Royal College of Art. He lived in London and exhibited at the New English Art Club and also the Royal Academy regularly from 1908 to 1948 and elsewhere in Britain. In 1921 he became a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters In 1927 he was awarded an Hon. Mention at the Paris Salon.

    From 1929 to 1949 he taught at St Martin's School of Art.
