    Biography
John Copley was a pupil of Ford Madox Brown. Copley first published lithographs in 1909, producing over 250 works of this type throughout his career. He is recognised as playing an important role in helping to introduce lithography to Britain. From 1925 he increasingly used the etching technique.

Copley did much to revitalise the Royal Society of British Artists and organised annual exhibitions to encourage young painters. He became president of the Society. At the age of seventy Copley took up painting, producing some original work on a large scale.

His works are extensively represented in the collections at the Victoria and Albert Museum, the British Museum, Manchester Art Gallery, and at the Yale Centre for British Art and Art Institute of Chicago in USA.
