    A painter, illustrator and caricaturist, Tony Sarg was born in Guatemala. Tony Sarg's family moved to Germany in 1887 and in 1911 he moved to England. In 1914 he became a member of the London Sketch Club. He illustrated several books while working in England. With outbreak of the war he moved to New York.
    He worked for many magazines such as the Saturday Evening Post and designed mural paintings for hotels in New York. From 1935 until his death he designed window displays for Macy's department store. After moving to Nantucket he opened the Tony Sarg shop which sold many of his designs and toys. Much of his work is now in the care of the Nantucket Historical Collection.
