Biography
Attribute Value Biography The son of Tom Gentleman, designer of a poster for London Transport in the 1930s, David Gentleman was born in London. He studied at St Albans School of Art (1947-8) and the Royal College of Art (1950-3) where he later taught (1953-5).
Since then, he has worked as a freelance illustrator and designer, his commissions ranging from murals (including the Northern Line Charing Cross Underground station in 1979) to postage stamps, carried out in a variety of media. He has done work for the Observer and Sunday Times, and was made a Royal Designer for Industry in 1970.
