  Biography	James Dowd was primarily a draughtsman, etcher and painter who specialised in illustrations of children, particularly for the books by Brenda Spender. He was a regular contributor to The Graphic. From 1906 he contributed to Punch and became the magazine's first film cartoonist. (Riddell 1995)
