    Born in Hampshire he studied art at the Slade and also in Munich.

    Before the war Beck had his own design consultancy in London and designed poster and press advertisements for London Transport, Shell Mex and the Orient Line. During the war he served with the Australian Imperial Force. In the 1940s he established his own design agency, Richard Beck Associates.

    During the 1950s he won many awards in Australia for his design work. He was Head of Graphic Design at Prahran Technical College 1969-1972. (Riddell 1995)
