    Brookshaw studied at the Central School of Arts and Crafts with John Farleigh and F C Herrick.
    Encouraged by Gregory Brown, Brookshaw produced illustrations and advertising material as well as posters for amongst others British Railways. He regularly contributed illustrations to the Radio Times. Brookshaw was a painter in oils and watercolours as well as a lithographer. His subjects were frequently associated with sporting events such as Cup Finals at Wembley, cricket matches at Lords and the Boat Race. He was a member of the Art Workers Guild and the Senefelder Club. He taught lithography at Goldsmiths College of Art during the late 1940s and early 1950s.

    After war service with the RAF he resumed his career. In 1964 he moved to Spain where he continued to paint extensively. There have been regular shows of his work in Spain and Cornwall, where he returned every summer. He returned to England and died at Wadebridge. His work is in the Fleet Air Arm Museum and the RAF Museum.
