Description | Geographical railway map printed on white paper, issued by the District Railway. The map shows the geographic features of central London with the District Railway and Metropolitan Railway overprinted in red and other railway lines overprinted in blue. Railway company names are printed alongside the lines which they operate, if lines are operated by more than one company the line is printed using two colours, red and blue. On the District Railway the company name is printed in blue and station names are printed in red. Stations are marked as squares and where a station is served by the District or Metropolitan Railways and another railway company, the station is marked with two squares, a red square for the Metropolitan and District Railways and a blue one for the other company. Extensions on the District Railway are marked by a broken red line as with the extension between Mill Hill Park and South Acton Stations, for the proposed extension from Putney Bridge to stations South of the River Thames, and for the new section at Earl's Court. The new authorized extension completing the inner circle between Aldgate and Mansion House is now open, as is the extension to Whitechapel. There is an overprint in the shape of a scroll which announces that 'The Inner Circle completion line and extension to Whitechapel and New Cross is now open'. There is an overprint in blue advertising the International Inventions Exhibition at the Horticultural Gardens. The District Railway service to Hounslow is now running and South Ealing Station is included on this map and the service on the East London Railway line between Shadwell and New Cross is now run by the District Railway. Extensions of other Railways are marked by a blue broken line, between Paddington to the Docks and for the section between Camden Road to Barbican. Proposed extensions are also marked from Blackfriars Road across the River Thames, there is also a proposed South Western extension to Putney, a Midland Railway extension from Haverstock Hill and the proposed South Western Railway extension to West End Station. The proposed Met & Outer Circle extension from Ealing is no longer shown. Omnibus routes are marked on this map by a line of dots and the names of some of the stops are marked. Tramway routes are indicated by a line of squares and show some services South of the River. Geographical features such as roads, parks and the River Thames are included in detail on the map and printed in various colours, places of interest are marked in red or pink. This map has a black border, which is broken in several places in order to include stations on some lines, and stations beyond the border of the map are indicated by an arrow. The title is printed at the top of the map, with the reference key at the bottom, the reverse is blank and there is a compass pointer in the top left hand corner. This map folds into a mauve-grey card folder. |
