Description | This is a geographic style railway map on paper, issued by the Metropolitan Railway, showing the completion of the Inner Cirlce and the extension from Aldgate to New Cross over the East London Railway. The map is in poor condition but shows the geographic features of the central London area with the Metropolitan Railway overprinted with bold blue lines, other railway lines are shown as thin blue or black lines. Stations are marked with squares and their names are printed in blue. other text in red. The route of the Metropolitan Railway is continued into the border of this map, in order to show the entire line, this is the case with the line to New Cross, Richmond and Pinner. Pinner Station is circled in blue, and the text 'NOW OPEN' is printed alongside it, there is also a finger pointing at the station name. There is a red circle overprint which shows the location of the Colonial and Indian Exhibition at South Kensington. Another red overprint marks the route of the express Metropolitan Railway omnibus service between Portland Road Station and Charing Cross, this new service is also advertised in the border. Roads, parks and the River Thames are included in detail on the map and are printed in black. This map has a large border in which there is information about tickets to and from the Colonial & Indian Exhibition and a list of Metropolitan Railway stations with the places they serve. On the reverse is an advert for the completion of the inner circle, information about season tickets, and an advert for Chas. Baker & Co.'s, a clothing shop in Holborn. |
