Description
This is a geographic style railway map on paper, issued by the Metropolitan Railway. The map shows the geographic features of the central London area with the Metropolitan Railway overprinted with bold red lines, other railway lines are shown as thin black lines. Stations are marked with squares and their names are printed in red. There are no extensions shown on this map and the inner circle has been completed. Geographical features such as roads, parks and the River Thames are included in detail on the map and are printed in black. This map has a large border, in which there is an index of places of interest, main line stations, train services, parks and omnibus routes, these have an alpha-numerical code, which refers to a grid on the map. The title is printed at the top of the map, with a scale at the bottom. The front cover is pink, and has a picture of a Metropolitan Railway train, the title, the general managers name and address, and a price.

    The Principal Buildings, Places of Interest, Theatres, &c., in London, are numbered and lettered on margin of map, which is ruled in HALF-MILE SQUARES, and similarly numbered and lettered, affording ready means of reference, thus:- Adelphi Theatre. Strand, E7, fifth square down the map (E), and seventh across.
    Theatres, &c., not shown on map in consequence of want of space are marked + in marginal notes.
