Description
This is a geographic style railway map on paper, issued by the District Railway. The map shows the geographic features of London with the District Railway and Metropolitan Railway overprinted with bold red lines, other railway lines are overprinted with black lines. Where two companies run trains over the same line, two lines are printed. Railway company names are not printed alongside the lines which they operate, instead there is a reference key, stations are marked with squares and their names are printed in red. Extensions are shown for the District Railway and are marked by a broken red line. The map shows all the District Railway lines in their entirety and if the map does not cover the area as far as the end of the line, then the line is continued into the border. There are proposed extensions between Whitechapel and Southend Sations, and from Ealing Common to South Harrow. The extension between Putney Bridge and Wimbledon is now completed, as well as the line between Mill Hill Park and South Acton. The District Railway line to Hounslow Town is marked, but the station is not named. Extensions on other Railway lines are marked with black broken lines as with the C&SLR extension under construction to Clapham from Stockwell, the Great Central Railway line between Marlebone and Finchley Road, the proposed extension from Paddington and Castle Hill to the West via Greenford, and the new line between Bank and Angel. There are also extensions under construction from South Kensington to Piccadilly Circus, between Waterloo and Baker Street, from Moorgate to Finsbury Park and from Charing Cross to Golders Green. The Central London Railway and the Waterloo & City Railway are marked as being under construction. The North Metropolitan Railway extension from Royal Oak to North East London is no longer shown. Shaftesbury Road Station has been renamed Ravenscourt Park. Omnibus routes are marked on this map as a dotted line, tramway routes are not included. Geographical features such as roads, parks and the River Thames are included in detail on the map and are printed in black, places of interest are also shown, including exhibition sites which are marked in red. The names of geographic Districts are shown on the map, and the route of the boat race is marked out in red on the River, there is also a grid which is refered to in the index on the reverse. The title is printed at the top of the map, with a reference key and scale at the bottom, there is also a compass pointer at the top. The reverse of the map has a list of Stations served by the District Railway and London Railway Termini, an index of Places of Interest, brief descriptions of Places of Attraction in or near London, and details of omnibus services.
