Description
This is a paper edition of a geographical style Green Line Coach map. The only geographical features shown are the routes, and the River Thames which is shown as a series of white lines. The map, which shows the full extent of all Green Line routes, extends from Hitchin in the north, Tilbury in the east, Aylesbury in the west and Crawley in the south. Each route is shown in white against a green background. At the termini of each route the route number is printed in white in a white circle. Destination names are included with the route number at the termini and are printed in green against a white rectangle. Each route is marked along its length with smaller route numbers and the names of towns and villages it serves, these are marked by a white line across the main route line. The central London area of the map is highlighted by a white rectangular border and lines are shown thinner. Around the edges of the map are seventeen drawing of places to visit by John Finnie. They show Ashridge, Jordans Meeting House, Hatfield House, Bishop's Stortford, Epping Forest, Waltham Abbey, Dagenham, Gravesend, Hop-picking in Kent, Knole, Reigate, Leith Hill, Stokes Poges, Guildford Town Hall, Ascot, London Airport and Whipsnade Zoo. A scale in miles is given in the bottom left hand corner and the title at the top.
The reverse of the map is printed in black and green and a table gives details of the principle places served by each route. There is also a map of the central area in greater detail. This map has a bright yellow background and shows coach routes in green. Boarding points are shown as a white circle (when a vehicle can be boarded in both directions), an arrow (when a vehicle can only be boarded in the direction indicated) or a triangle (for restricted services). Terminal points are indicated by a green circle with the route number printed in white. Route numbers are given at many boarding points to indicate which routes serve the stops. Other streets not served are printed in white. Underground lines are not shown. Parks are shown in green, main line stations and places of interest in brown and the River Thames in blue. A key is given in the bottom right hand corner of this map. General information is given about timetables, maps, the Green Line Coach Guide, fares, children's fares, weekly tickets, luggage, lost property, coach stops, standing passengers, addresses for enquiries and a note about the adherence of coaches to the timetable given. Information is also given about several places of interest to visit in London and the Country.
On the front cover Green Line is shown across the bar of a roundel and the border is white alternate solid and outlined roundels against a green background.
