Description | This departure indicator was installed at the entrance of the District line and North London line platforms, platforms 5 & 6, at Richmond. Probably installed by the Southern Railway when the station was reconstructed in 1937. Originally fitted with enamel destination plates with white lettering on green background these were replaced by British Railways with those currently fitted which are black lettering on a white background. (Screw holes from the original plates remain under the later ones) The indicator is described in Underground News No 235 (July 1981 - pages 155 -7) in a follow up letter the following month (pages 192 -3) and later (pages 618 -9). |
