Description | This early type of telephone kiosk was known as a 'silence cabinet' and used inside shops, hotels, post offices and railway stations. Designed to reduce the effect of background noise interfering with a telephone call, this example was situated in the booking hall of North Ealing station and remained in use for over seventy years. The hinged swing door was removed during the 1980s for security reasons. |
