Description | Even before the Second World War, London Transport (L.T) staff received regular Air Raid Precautions (A.R.P) training in fire- fighting and rescue. Once the war started, gas masks such as this one were issued as standard to official Fire Tenders who would keep the mask available at all times when on duty. During the war, gas masks were issued nationally to the public to protect them from possible poison gas attacks. |
