Description | Folding type metal short circuiting device (SCD). This SCD is of the folding type carried on all stock until the early 1990's when replaced with the single handle magnetic type. It is used to discharge traction current or ensure that current is not re-applied by hooking over the outer positive current conductor rail then swiftly lowering the device on to the negative causing a short circuit. This should open the circuit breakers at the sub-station. All passenger rolling stock carry an SCD in the drivers cab. |
