Description | In 1904, the Great Northern & City Railway line G.N&C.R. opened. It ran the relatively short distance from Moorgate Street up to Finsbury Park. This photographic postcard shows a three-quarter front view of a G.N&C.R. train standing at a station platform. Members of staff including the driver are posing for the camera. Operation of the G.N&C.R. was taken over by the Metropolitan Railway in 1913, and it operated as part of Northern line from 1939. The line was gradually closed between 1964 and 1975, but was re-opened by the British Railway Board in 1976 as part of its Great Northern Electrics suburban service. |
