Description | This is the original artwork by Mabel Lucy Attwell for a poster advertising London's Pantomimes. Attwell started out as an illustrator of children's books. She maintained her comic style in subsequent commercial work, which became widely popular. From 1911, Attwell's chubby toddlers appeared on picture postcards, calendars and posters. The characters would have been familiar to the public in 1913 when the Underground published this design. |
