In 2021 Transport for London (TfL) reached out to colleagues and luminaries across the LGBT+ London community, inviting them to design their very own Pride roundel. This was at a time when we were coming out of a national lockdown and Covid was impacting us all in many ways. The Pride in London Parade had been cancelled for the second year in a row leaving a big gap in the LGBT+ calendar which was previously given over to commemoration, celebration, and expression.

Taking Pride

We wanted our message to go beyond flags and put people and their stories at the heart of Pride 2021. The themes for the creative centred on London, Hope, and New Beginnings. We asked our designers to be bold, brave, and have fun with their designs. Using colour, photography, iconic elements from TfL’s design history, and most importantly bring their own story, personal style, and character into the creative.

We are incredibly proud to have been part of this special collaboration which saw each of these impactful designs installed across the TfL transport network. Each designer also shared their stories and inspiration alongside their roundel which tells the individual narrative behind each design.

We are grateful to our colleagues at London Transport Museum for taking the designs into their collection and displaying them for the duration of LGBT+ History Month and beyond, until 31 March 2022.
