Description | In 1953, a new style of uniform was introduced for women conductors on the Country Bus and Coach Services. It included a beret-style cap which would have had a roundel badge pinned to the front. At the same time and for the first time, women staff were issued with green uniforms that matched those of their male colleagues. The design of London Transport uniforms was influenced by military uniforms, so had a tailored and regimented appearance. The women's beret-style cap had a military look but was a softer alternative to the rigid peaked caps worn by male staff. |
