Description | With the outbreak of the Second World War, the London Passenger Transport Board started to recruit women bus conductors, though they had not employed them since the end of the First World War. This grey worsted wool cap was part of the women's uniform. It has been fitted with a Central Buses roundel-style cap badge, though this badge may not have been original to the cap. This style of cap was worn by all female staff and would have had either a central services, tram and trolleybus, Country Bus or rail cap badge as appropriate. This type of military cap is known as 'Kepi' style and refers to the Swiss German 'Kappi', meaning 'cap'. |
