Description | This poster celebrates the 50-year jubilee of the opening of the Central line on 30 July 1950. The illustration, by Denys Nicholls, depicts a tree framing a country scene. At the bottom is an image the Central line with a 'camelback' locomotive and crowds gathered on the platform. A flag is attached representing 1900, when the Central line operated the 6 miles from Shepherds Bush to Bank and carried 100,000 passengers a day. At the top of the tree is another flag stating '1950 – West Ruislip to Epping, 45 miles, 350,000 passengers a day.' |
