Poster; Underground for business or pleasure, by F E Witney, 1913
Main details
Reference number | 1983/4/302 |
---|---|
Description | Tube travel was classless, but a distinction between first- and third-class was retained on the District Railway. Unlike the mainline railways, the Underground could offer the lure of comfortable travel on equal terms to rich and poor. The passengers in this poster represent different social groups, although the more obviously wealthy and fashionable are in the foreground. |
