Description | This photo is one of a series taken to commemorate the ceremonial opening of the Victoria line on 7 March 1969. At that time, the line ran from Walthamstow to Victoria. The section from Victoria to Brixton did not open until July 1971. The line was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II, pictured here in a blue hat and fur coat. The picture was taken on board the first train on the line. The other people in the picture are two London Transport officials: Eric Wilkins, Chief Public Relations Officer on the left and Anthony Bull, Deputy Chairman, on the right. The man seated on the far right in the shot is the then Transport Minister, Richard Marsh. |
