Description | This photograph shows part of a Docklands Light Railway (D.L.R.) train at Canary Wharf station in 1998. The D.L.R. opened in 1987, having been developed for the comparatively cheap sum of £77 million. D.L.R. trains allow passengers unprecedented views out of the front and rear windows. The D.L.R. was the first transport link to connect the City with the new Docklands development. It soon became apparent, however, that its capacity was insufficient to serve the Docklands, so the Jubilee line was extended. |
