Description | This photograph shows passengers at Highgate station boarding a train of 1906/7 gate-tube stock. Highgate Tube station opened on 22 June 1907. It was the terminus of the Charing Cross Euston & Hampstead Railway (C.C.E.& H.R.) until it was extended to East Finchley on 3 July 1939. The C.C.E.& H.R. is now part of the modern Northern line. The stations on this line had a unique geometrical tiling scheme at platform level that helped regular travellers recognise their station. The station name also appeared in three places on each platform. |
