Description | Informal family snapshot showing Mr William Bark and (?) his wife, sitting outside their house. William 'Bill' Bark, born 1867, began work at Athol Street Garage where he was engaged as a horse bus driver. He also worked as a tram driver at some stage. Later in his career he transferred to vehicle maintenance, where he ended his working life as a wheelwright. His chest of woodworking tools (LDLTM 0125) was donated to the museum by a relative, Mr A J Griffiths who also provided the original photograph. Mr Bark and family moved to Canvey Island, Essex in 1940 -41, after their house was partly demolished in the Blitz. He died in hospital aged 86 after suffering a fall. |
