Description | In 1995 London Regional Transport introduced a comprehensive new computerised travel information system called ROUTES (Rail, Omnibus, Underground Travel Enquiry System). Operated by call centre staff it allowed questions relating to travel in the Greater London area to be answered quickly and accurately. It was upgraded several times before being replaced by the online Journey Planner. The computer contains timetable information from its last week of use in November 2002. On average, the database was used for only about 20% of enquiries, as many requests for information could be answered by the operator's own knowledge. |
