Description | Bus routes have traditionally been supervised by inspectors stationed at the side of the road. Whilst this was an efficient method for monitoring busy routes in city centres, for remote or infrequent services this proved to be expensive to staff. To solve this problem, some 250 clocks like these were installed at termini and turning points. On arrival, the conductor had to insert a special log card which would be stamped with the place, date and time to provide a record of the service. The last was taken out of service in 1972. |
