About the event

London Transport Museum’s Friday Lates are back! Join us in celebrating the opening of our exhibition Legacies: London Transport’s Caribbean Workforce.

Immerse yourself in London’s Caribbean culture with music, talks, and creative workshops.

Carnival tiaras

Make your own dazzling Carnival tiara with costume designer Shari Royer, dance the night away to SharkyDJ’s set spanning the breadth of Caribbean music from the 1950s to today, catch a performance by players from Endurance Steel Orchestra, and try your own hand at steel pan drumming.

Augmented reality experience

Meet Immersive Creator and Artist Patricia Lalla and explore her prototype Augmented Reality Experience, Please Mind the Ghosts. Based on a physical abstract Tube map and an AR app, it brings to life characters of different eras and ethnicities, all connected to the Windrush story.

Talks

Brush up your history knowledge with Dr Angelina Osborne MBE, historian, heritage consultant and author, who will talk about “what we didn’t learn in history class” about the Windrush generation and the contribution of Caribbean people to Britain.

Hear from Gloria George, Facilities & Projects Planner in LUSD & Chair of RACE Staff Network Group at TfL, about her 30 year journey working for London Transport, her Windrush Generation parents, her mum who worked in the canteen at Southall bus garage in the 1970s, and her work as part of the Raising Awareness of Culture and Ethnicity Staff Network Group today.

Basil Olton, artist, curator, and director of Highgate Art School, will talk about his work researching and curating Caribbean British artists, his own family ties to London Transport, and making art accessible to all.

and more!

Explore the new exhibition and the Museum’s permanent galleries after hours and enjoy some light refreshments and cocktails from the Museum bar.
