Family fun this half term

Fuel your imagination at our Festival of Curiosity! Enjoy curious and creative problem-solving challenges, and meet real-world engineers.

The story of London and its transport is one of invention and imagination, from the pioneers who built the world’s first underground railway to solve the challenge of London’s busy streets, to the engineers who designed the city’s bridges and cable car to help people cross the river. Follow in the footsteps of the people who have kept the capital moving over the last 200 years - and have a go at inventing new solutions to transport challenges of the future.

This is part of our Climate Crossroads programme, setting a course towards a greener future for us all.

STEAM-inspired family trail

Follow a self-guided interactive STEAM-inspired family-friendly trail around the museum’s galleries. Put your problem-solving skills to the test as you work together to solve challenges and learn about how engineers have conquered the elements to transport people above ground, below ground, and across the river.

‘Failure is your friend’ workshop (Suitable for children aged 7 and above)

Sessions will take place daily at 11:00, 13:30 and 15:00.

Explore the forces that propel London’s many modes of transport in a hands-on workshop and learn how engineers are trialling green solutions to climate change. Work together with other families to build a prototype that could help make a difference. Step into the shoes of an engineer to experiment with what works and what doesn’t.

Future of Transport tours (Suitable for children and young people aged 7-14)

Tours in groups of six last 45 minutes and will take place daily at 11:00 and 13:00.

Join a tour of our galleries to explore how travelling around our city has changed and what new technology might mean for future transport inventions. Put your thinking caps on and get curious about what a greener more sustainable city could look like 50 years from now, from the types of vehicles we travel on to the fuel that powers them. At the end of your tour, turn your ideas into designs for the future.

Storytelling sessions (Suitable for children aged 5 and under)

Sessions last 30 minutes and will take place from Monday 29 May - Friday 2 June at 11:00, 12:00, 14:00 and 15:00.

A chance for little ones to get creative in our interactive storytelling sessions about transport inventions.
