Poster Prize for Illustration 2019: London Stories

The Poster Prize for Illustration 2019: London Stories

Vote for your favourite poster until 2 June!

Across the ages, London has produced and inspired countless stories. Fictitious or real characters and events in this amazing city have always held a fascination, from the anecdotal urban myth to grand tales of historic legend – from the everyday to the curious, and from the past to the present. The Poster Prize for Illustration competition 2019 is made up of art that is colourful, inspiring and celebrates the vibrant, multi-layered city that is London.

The exhibition displays 100 illustrations chosen from a competition and chosen by an independent panel of judges.

Artists were invited to visually capture a familiar or lesser-known narrative in a single image - current or historical, real or fictional which feature London. Stories could be those seen in a film or play, heard in poetry or music, or read in literature. They may be family anecdotes, or an impression of the artists' daily observations, or of London's history or contemporary city living. What stories does London have to tell?

Artists that impress the jury with their illustrated interpretation of a London story are in with a chance of having their work displayed at the famous London Transport Museum and winning the top prize.

The top 100 entries selected by a panel of judges will be displayed in an exhibition at London Transport Museum until 14 July 2019.

There’s also an opportunity for visitors to vote for their favourite poster illustration in the Exterion Media gallery, where the exhibition takes place. The winning illustration will be announced in June and permanently accessioned into London Transport Museum’s collection.

London Stories is organised by the Museum in partnership with the Association of Illustrators (AOI)
