Description | Public information posters established a code of conduct on the Underground, to help keep passengers safe and services running smoothly. The rules and etiquette of the Underground are now established in the minds of most passengers. Freda Lingstrom produced this bold poster for the Underground Electric Railway Company in 1923, when such conventions remained in their infancy. Moving down the Underground carriage to allow other passengers on was one of many rules introduced to address the problem of overcrowding. 'Pass down the car, please' appeared in numerous subsequent posters and soon became a familiar slogan. |
