The palace has mellowed in the more amiable aspects of history. The magnificent roof of the Great Hall saw the happier moments of five of Henry VIII's wives. Wren added the Fountain Court for the pleasure of William and Mary. The gardens, as rich in their seasons as any in England, have added colour and scent to its age-long serenity. Today the visitor can still inspect the Tudor Kitchens, the Mantegna Cartoons in the Orangery, the Great Vine.
