Description | This view of the exterior of Waterloo mainline station includes the Victory Arch and the First World War staff memorial. This is how the station was designed to look. It is now enclosed by rail bridges and buildings. The Victory Arch is a memorial to the workers of the London and South Western Railway (L.S.W.R.) who lost their lives in the First World War (1914–18). The L.S.W.R. originally owned the station. Construction started on this station in 1900. When this photo was taken in 1922, the station building had just been finished. |
