Description | A view looking east from the Marble Arch end of Oxford Street, dominated by the complex of Selfridge's buildings on the northern side. The street is busy with people and traffic, the latter especially converging at the junction of Oxford Street with Orchard Street and North Audley Street. A line of decorative lampposts runs down the middle of the road. Also in view are some LGOC B-type buses operating on routes 7a and 30; the first is seen in a three-quarter rear offside view, the second in a front offside view. Front views of LGOC buses, possibly S-type buses, can also be seen operating on routes 13 and 51. Automobiles and taxis are also on the road. Shop/commercial premises visible (other than Selfridge's) are Barratt & Co. Ltd, Northampton, and Stanley Jones & Co, Shop Fitters. |

Showing the Oxford St frontage and a portion of the Orchard St frontage of Selfridge's island site. On right appears the rear of the newly-built Orchard St section (the front elevation harmonising with that of the original building to the east). The old buildings and shops were formerly the premises of Lloyd's the drapers and were acquired by Selfridge's some few years after their (Selfridge's) opening in Oxford St.
