Description | Clapham South Underground station on the Morden extension of the City and South London Railway (now the Northern line). Exterior view of the Holden designed station with three leafed folding screen type arrangement for the facade. The central leaf sits on a diagonal to the right angle of the road junction and is dominated by a large window. This was the first station to be built to this pattern and was constructed in 1926. Underground signs set into window and on the stone facades flanking the window. Lower storey buildings extend from either side of the facade and house various shops. Large paved area in foreground. |
