Description | The coal hoist and riverside dock at Lots Road Power Station. Two rows of barges laden with coal are being unloaded via a mechanical scoop operated from overhead gantrys. To the right of the dock, the unloading crane structures incorporate funnel-type devices for unloading the coal. The dock or'Coal Basin' mouth opening into the Thames is sealed by gates in the manner of a lock. The skyline of the opposite riverbank is visible, revealing church steeples and factory chimneys, a large warehouse or office building lies to the right. |
