Description | Four women staff workers at Effra Road Printing Works (London Transport tickets and timetables etc) knit 'comforts' for servicemen during the Second World War, probably as part of London Transports 'Warco' scheme (War Comforts Fund Association - a voluntary scheme) . The women are surrounded by stacks of tickets. Note: By the end of the Second World War, WARCO had provided £88, 794 towards more than 14,000 cases of air raid and other distress. Its members knitted approximately 211, 500 woollen garments for the forces, and funds had provided cigarettes for servicemen totalling £5,500. |
