Biography
Attribute Value Biography Laurence Scarfe was a British artist, designer, write and teacher. Scarfe lectured at Bromley School of Art from 1937 to 1939, then at Central School of Art from 1945 to 1970, and for about a decade from 1971 at Brighton Polytechnic. He designed murals for public events as well as companies and a wide range of items of commercial graphic art. He was art editor and contributor to The Saturday Book and illustrated for Radio Times. Scarfe's books included Rome: Fragments in the Sun (1950), and Alphabets: History of Calligraphy and Typography (1954). In addition, he was a member of the Society of Mural Painters and a fellow of the Society of Industrial Artists.
Before WWII he lectured at Bromley School of Art and after the war at the Central School of Arts and Crafts.
