    Laurence Scarfe was a British artist, designer, write and teacher. Scarfe lectured at Bromley School of Art from 1937 to 1939, then at Central School of Art from 1945 to 1970, and for about a decade from 1971 at Brighton Polytechnic. He designed murals for public events as well as companies and a wide range of items of commercial graphic art. He was art editor and contributor to The Saturday Book and illustrated for Radio Times. Scarfe's books included Rome: Fragments in the Sun (1950), and Alphabets: History of Calligraphy and Typography (1954). In addition, he was a member of the Society of Mural Painters and a fellow of the Society of Industrial Artists.

    Before WWII he lectured at Bromley School of Art and after the war at the Central School of Arts and Crafts. His work was in the 'Britain Can Make It Exhibition' in 1946.
