    Biography
Joseph Walter West was a painter, lithographer and designer. He painted figurative and literary subjects and landscapes. West exhibited a number of times at the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of British Artist and was the vice president of the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours. He produced several posters for the Underground Group, including Harvest (1916) which depicts a traditional pastoral scene in wartime. The poster was distributed to troops at war as a reminder of home and shows the harvest being carried out by women as the men were at war.
