    Biography
    Betty Swanwick was born in London, the daughter of a marine artist. She studied at Goldsmith's College of Art under Clive Gardiner and Edward Bawden, the Royal College of Art, and the Central School of Arts and Crafts.

    From 1948-1969 she was a tutor at Goldsmith's College. She worked as a book illustrator, painter, designer for Shell-Mex, BP and the Central Office of Information and murals for Great Ormond Street Children's hospital and the Festival of Britain. She illustratd her own novels and necame an RA in 1979. She was a member of the RWS.
