Biography
Attribute Value Biography Bruce McLean was born in Glasgow where he studied at Glasgow School of Art (1961-3), before moving to St Martin's School of Art, London (1963-6), on an advanced sculpture course.
During the second half of the 1960s he produced a number of experimental works characterised by impermanence, including `floating sculpture' and performance art. In the mid 1970s he began to paint, initially as preparation for performance works.
He has had major retrospectives of his work at the Museum of Modern Art, Oxford (1975), the Third Eye Centre, Glasgow (1980), and the Whitechapel Art Gallery, London (1983), the latter subsequently shown in Berlin.
