    Born in Bruges, Belgium, he moved to London with his family in 1875 where he attended school until 1879. He studied at the South Kensington School of Art, worked in the William Morris shop in Oxford Street from 1882 to 1884, and exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1885.

    He spent seven years as a sailor from 1887. On his return, he worked as a painter, designer and craftsman in many media and by 1913 had achieved a considerable reputation, with projects such as interiors for the British pavilions at the Venice Biennales of 1905 and 1907.

    Brangwyn designed many posters including one for the LNER.
    He was the designer for the Graphic from 1892.
    He illustrated numerous books, designed the stained glass for St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin, in 1931, and exhibited widely in Britain and on the Continent. There is a Brangwyn Museum in Bruges. (Green 1990)
