Description | Model 60A acetylene hand lamp, standard issue item to depot staff before introduction of electric lamps. The upper chamber held water which was regulated by the small tap to the top. The water dripped into the lower chamber which contained calcium carbide, the reaction of which caused the production of acetylene gas. An open flame was produced which was contained within the lensed reflector. The water regulator could be used to adjust the level of gas produced and thus the intensity of the flame. |
