Description | This series of colour wood engravings by Edwina Ellis was used in the poster London's New Architecture. It was commissioned by London Transport to celebrate the diversity of modern architecture in London. It took Ellis 18 months to complete the nine colour images. In the final poster, each of the architectural details has been labelled with the building, architect and nearest Underground station. From the top, left to right, the buildings are as follows: The Sainsbury Wing of the National Gallery, Mound Stand at Lords, Embankment Place, Waterloo International station, The Clore Gallery at the Tate, No 1 Finsbury Park Avenue, Sterling Hilton Hotel, the Sackler Gallery at the Royal Academy, and Lloyds of London. Ellis took up this form of multiblock colour engravings after a visit to Morocco in 1983. |
