Taking inspiration from some of Burningham’s books and the Museum’s Burningham poster collection, children can create puppets to take home. Families can also stage their own mini puppet show in the Museum’s pop up puppet theatre. Suitable for ages 5+

Author and illustrator of children’s books 'Mr Gumpy' and 'Borka: the adventures of a Goose with no Feathers' - John Burningham in conversation with broadcaster Robert Elms

Author and illustrator of the much loved children’s books Mr Gumpy and Borka: the adventures of a Goose with no Feathers, John Burningham, will be in conversation with BBC London Radio presenter Robert Elms on the evening of Tuesday 1 November 2011.
During the evening Burningham will discuss his rich and varied career, including his big break designing posters for London Transport, and his latest poster artwork - Children’s London, recently completed after 40 years since its original commission. There will also be an opportunity to purchase a copy of the poster and get it signed by John.
John Burningham first came under the spotlight with a poster commission from London Transport in 1960. Burningham later found fame as a celebrated children’s book author and illustrator and has written over 60 illustrated books, for which he has received many honours including two Kate Greenaway medals.
The In conversation with John Burningham evening is part of a programme of events running until December 2011, including a book signing, poster display of 20 of his travel posters and half term activities for the family.

John Burningham, author and illustrator of children’s books including Borka: The Adventures of a Goose with No Features, Mr Gumpy’s Outing, The Avocado Baby, and Granpa, will be signing copies of his newly published, illustrated autobiography John Burningham: An Illustrated Journey.
Ticket Information: Entrance to the Museum is free on 26 November between 2.00pm to 4.00pm with each copy of the book purchased in the Museum’s shop.

Children’s London Flickr Project
Date: Until Thursday 1 December 2011
To celebrate Burningham’s new Children’s London poster artwork London Transport Museum has launched a Flickr project. Children and adults are invited to take photographs on the theme of children’s London and submit them to the Museum’s Flickr site so that they can be displayed alongside the Burningham poster display. Lively, action-packed readings from some of John Burningham’s books. Suitable for under 5sWhether it’s a photograph that represents a child’s experience of the Capital or a snapshot that captures London’s playful nature, we’d love you to share it. Entries welcome until 1 December 2011. The three photographs with the most views and comments will receive a signed copy of Burningham’s new book plus a free entry ticket for two people. The Museum will contact the three recipients via Flickr.
