Black History Month - World in Motion
Date: Saturday 1 October 2011
Time: Various
London Transport Museum, in partnership with Transport for London’s (TfL) Black Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) staff network group will host a day of activities to celebrate this year’s Black History Month (BHM), Saturday 1 October 2011.

Black History Month has been celebrated in the UK since 1987. Its aim is to recognise the contributions of African, Asian and Caribbean people to the economic, cultural and political life in London and the UK.
Events showcasing the Museum’s rich collection of staff history include craft workshops, storytelling and films.
‘We are the champions’ story-telling
11:00 - 11:30
Hear all about the amazing cricket playing London Transport staff from the Caribbean and the trophies they won and sing-along to some of your favourite railway rhymes. Suitable for under 5s.
Film Screenings
14:00 - 14:45
Watch films made by the Museum in partnership with community groups and TfL in the Museum’s Cubic Theatre. Follow a day in the life of staff at Tooting Broadway Underground station and find out where your lost property goes at the end of the day. Suitable for all ages.
Craft workshops
15:00 - 17:00
Meet TfL front line staff and listen to stories of their heritage. Families can try on a variety of uniform hats and caps from the Museum’s collection and take a look at a uniform Rasta hat and a Turban, which reflect TfL’s commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion. Taking inspiration from photographs of the millions of passengers that have travelled on the Underground during the last century, families can craft their own uniform or passenger hats and bonnets, using card, paper and sparkles, to wear home. Suitable for 5+.
