Ahead of the eagerly awaited arrival of the first prototype of the Mayor’s New Bus for London, visitors to the Capital will have a further chance to see a life-size 3D mock-up of the bus on display. The mock-up has been used to engage with stakeholders and fine-tune the design of the bus. It has been announced that the mock-up will remain on display until November, giving the public a chance to get a close-up look at the exterior design of the bus and see part of the interior through the lower deck windows.

The first New Bus for London vehicles will enter service on the streets of the Capital early next year.  The New Bus for London draws inspiration from the famous Routemaster bus, but has a pioneering, futuristic design that features:

  • An open platform at the rear which allows the reinstatement of a hop-on hop-off service;
  • Extensive use of glass to highlight key features and produce a light and airy feel inside the bus;
  • The latest green technology, meaning that air quality emissions will be reduced by 40 per cent for NOx and 33 per cent for PM when compared with conventional diesel buses;
  • A glass 'swoop' at the rear and offside to pick out the two staircases; and
  • Three doors and two staircases for smoother, speedier boarding and access to the upper deck.

Visitors to the Museum will be able to compare the new bus as it sits alongside an iconic Routemaster up until November 2011.
